The Historical Novel Society maintains this website and any courses offered for the use of its students, and other Site users (“Users”), upon agreement to the following terms. Please read the terms carefully before using the site. Use of this website indicates acceptance of these “Terms & Conditions” and forms a binding agreement between you and the Historical Novel Society. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use this site.
1. Use of Site
The Historical Novel Society provides various materials in courses offered through this site (the “materials”). The materials on this site are copyrighted, and unauthorised use of any materials on this site may violate copyright, trademark, and other laws. All materials are the intellectual property of the course tutor. Users may download course materials for personal use but may not publish, sell, give away, summarise or share those materials elsewhere without explicit permission from the copyright holder. Users may not modify the materials in any way. Any breach of these terms automatically terminates your authorised use of the site.
2. Participation
The User agrees to participate in group programmes hosted through the site in a positive, constructive and respectful manner. Any behaviour deemed abusive, inappropriate or unlawful by the Historical Novel Society will result in immediate removal from the site. The Historical Novel Society reserves the right to revoke access for any User at any time without notice.
3. Original Work
The User guarantees that any work submitted via the site, including written work for group workshops or posted in the site online community, is their own work, unless clearly stated, and does not infringe the copyright or intellectual property of any third party. Each User agrees not to submit or share any written work or other material that might be deemed abusive, offensive or unlawful.
4. Confidentiality
The User agrees that each student owns the copyright and intellectual property in their original work. All such work must be treated as confidential and must not be reproduced or shared elsewhere, including specific creative details of that work, such as plot lines or titles.
5. Refund Policy
The Historical Novel Society operates a ‘cooling off period’ of one calendar month from the start date of each course. Any student cancelling their enrolment during the cooling off period will receive a refund of 50% of monies paid. There will be no refund after the one calendar month cooling off period.
If the Historical Novel Society cancels a student’s enrolment during the cooling off period, a full refund will be given. If the Historical Novel Society cancels a student’s enrolment after the one month cooling off period, or as a result of a breach of these terms and conditions, no refund will be due.

Links to external websites are provided solely as a convenience to you. The Historical Novel Society has not reviewed all of these external websites, does not control and is not responsible for any of these sites or their content. If you decide to access any of the external websites linked to this site, you do so entirely at your own risk.
7. No Warranty
The materials provided at this site are provided “as is” without any warranties of any kind. The Historical Novel Society may make changes to the materials at this site, or to the services and prices described in them, at any time without notice.
8. Applicable Law
These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of the United Kingdom.
9. Effective Date and Updates
The Terms are effective as of May 20th, 2020 and are subject to change without notice by the Historical Novel Society at any time. Please check for changes regularly. Your use of this site after such changes constitutes your agreement to such changes.
